General Information

Our laboratory has a number of research projects that cover a wide range of approaches and techniques. Expertise currently represented in our laboratory include psychology, in vivo electrophysiology, hippocampal slice electrophysiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. By sharing expertise, scientists in our laboratory are able to individually pursue research questions with a wide range of approaches. It is common for single students and post-docs in the laboratory to use behavioral, electrophysiological and molecular biological techniques in their research projects.  Since understanding the brain requires integrating information from many levels of analytical complexity, a multidisciplinary education/background will be crucial for the future of Neuroscience.

UCLA is one of the largest (>200 neuroscience laboratories) and most exciting in the world. Just about every field of brain science, from clinical psychology to molecular neuroscience, is represented at UCLA. Despite its size, the academic environment is very collegial and interactive, with several seminar programs, journal clubs, retreats and special events, which provide countless opportunities for interactions and interchange of ideas.

L&M at UCLA includes laboratories that range from cognitive sciences to molecular neurosciences. We have a learning and memory journal club, and numerous courses and lectures on the subject.  We are fortunate to have in Los Angeles other universities that also have strong learning and memory programs, including Caltech, UCSD, USC and UC-Irvine. We have Southern California Learning and Memory annual meeting that provides an opportunity for post-docs and students studying Learning and Memory to meet, exchange ideas and expertise.
